Gestur Pétursson, is the Managing Director of Veitur Utilities. He has a Masters degree in Industrial and Operational Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1998, with a focus on Energy & Risk Management.

From 2010 to 2014 Gestur was the Managing Director of Safety, Health and Environmental affairs at Elkem Iceland and the CEO of the company until September 2019. At Elkem Iceland he worked on the introduction and integration of innovation in the company’s corporate culture to address the opportunities offered by the world’s energy exchange, product development for customers and improvements on the cost structure of the Elkem Iceland plant. Gestur has served on the boards of numerous companies and organiztions, both in Iceland and internationally, including Green by Iceland – Cooperation platform on climate issues and green solutions and Festa – Center for social responsibility.
