The waterfall Gullfoss and Geysir the geothermal field  needs little introduction: it includes some of Iceland’s most stunning sights.

You will see the hot spring Strokkur shoot a column of water up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air every 4-8 minutes – a thrilling experience that just never gets old. We also visit the magnificent Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, created where the river Hvítá tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep.

Haukadalur valley, located 5 minutes from Geysir geothermal area, was the home of a great family of Viking chieftains in the 11th and 12th century who founded a school there so this was a famous place of learning during the 1st republic of Iceland.  Later, soil erosion laid the great farm to waste and it was only in the 19th century that people started planting trees again in the valley and reclaiming the forest of old.

The Golden Circle tour also includes the historical and geological wonder that is Thingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart at a rate of a few centimetres per year.Last stop of the day is Kerid – a huge volcanic crater, 3500 years old.
