He has B.Sc. degree in engineering and a M.Sc. degree in engineering with a focus construction management from the University of Reykjavík. He also has a M.Sc. degree Renewable Energy Science from University of Iceland.

Vidar possesses extensive experience from the industry. He worked as a project manager and consultant for a software company Azazo (2013-2014) that focuses Enterprise Content Management. He worked as a project controls manager on projects for HRV Engineering and Mannvit Engineering (2011-2013), and as an engineer for VERKIS and at Hnit Consulting Engineers between 2006-2011.  From 2011 to 2016 Vidar has worked as adjunct lecturer at the University of Reykjavik as well as taking on consultant on special project for the Universities Department Science and Engineering.
